CANINE COMPANIONS

Established in 1975, Canine Companions is the largest non-profit provider of service dogs in the United States. Recognized worldwide for the excellence of their dogs and the quality and longevity of the matches they make. Expertly trained service dogs are provided to children, veterans, and adults with disabilities.

In January 2022, the newest member of the Pensacola Ice Flyers organization was introduced to Ice Flyers Nation. The official Ice Flyers puppy and future service dog for Canine Companions, Ranger. Ranger, and his volunteer puppy raisers LeAnne Pickering and Weston Cramer, have become an integral part of our Ice Flyers family.

With the help of Ranger, the Ice Flyers raise money and awareness through multiple avenues. For example, a special Canine Companions night took place in early February 2022 where players wore specialty jerseys featuring Ranger. Every jersey was auctioned off throughout the night. In addition, fans can also bid on #75 Ranger jerseys on specialty nights where proceeds benefit Canine Companions.

Ranger’s number 75 has two very special meanings that came together when we were selecting a number for him. First, Canine Companions was founded in 1975. Secondly, Weston Cramer was an Army Ranger and served in Baghdad in the early 2000s as part of the 75th Ranger Battalion.

Currently, through pictures and videos on social media, and in-game commercials with the players and Ranger, our organization can share the importance of service dogs. Especially, gaining independence for those who are physically, or emotionally in need of a service dog such as Ranger.
